Rosie O’Donnell wanted to ‘gay up’ Price is Right, belly rub Trump

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Drumroll, please. Here, with a heavy heart and a pained grimace, I present you with the 100th Suburbarazzi post about Rosie O’Donnell. Yes, we counted.

The latest news on the South Nyack rabble-rouser is that, while doing stand-up before a 1,500-person audience on her cruise for gay and lesbian families, she explained part of the reason she didn’t get “The Price is Right” gig.

Naturally, she also lashed out, again, against her twin nemiseses (nemisee?) Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Donald Trump. Which of course is hardly news. But what did shock a few was the persistent level of vitriolic hate fir Hasselbeck and the bizarre threat she made towards The Donald. Us Weekly even shows a giant photo of the former that she doctored up to look like the devil.

As for “The Price is Right,” part of the reason CBS passed is that she wanted to “gay it up.” Some excerpts from the show are after the break.

Bob Barker denies endorsing Rosie

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

So much for Bob Barker annointing Rosie O as his “Price is Right” successor. Days after giving what I—and many other writers—interpreted as an official thumbs up, the daytime show legend clarified his stance to the AP, saying, “I have not been asked for my opinion, nor have I expressed one. … I think there are several people who could do the show, and Rosie is certainly one of them.”

OK, so maybe his previous quote—“There’s no doubt in my mind she could do the show”—wasn’t such a clear-cut endorsement. My bad.

Meanwhile, Drew Carey is the latest name to be floated as a contender for the “Price is Right” throne, according to TV Guide. Which could be kinda tricky, given that he just signed on to host another game show, “The Power of 10”—a quiz show where contents are given a series of questions, each of which has the dollar value increment increased by the power of 10. But heck, if Regis and Meredith can do double-duty on TV, why not Drew?

Update: Fox News’ Roger Friedman also points out another obvious problemo with Rosie hosting: She lives in South Nyack, and the show is filmed in L.A. He adds that “One solution that O’Donnell will propose is shooting a month’s worth of shows over a four-day period every 30 days.”

Bob Barker has ‘no doubt’ Rosie O’Donnell could host ‘Price is Right’

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

Bob Barker’s legendary run as host of “The Price is Right” officially came to an end with yesterday’s broadcast of the season finale. And while the Associated Press quotes him as saying he has confidence in Rosie O’Donnell’s ability to succeed him, he adds he’s not sure that TV execs would have the same confidence:

There’s no doubt in my mind she could do the show. Now, whether they want a lady host, I don’t know.

Among the favorites to host are the E! network’s Todd Newton, “Entertainment Tonight’s” Mark Steines, and actors George Hamilton and John O’Hurley. But I still think Bob Saget would be the best successor. As I wrote in my ridiculously long synopsis of Barker’s “TPiR” finale, Saget has the snark, sense of humor and gravitas to host the show. Plus, he’s named Bob.

While I think O’Donnell could pull it off, I’m sure a number of people would be upset by this South Nyack resident hosting. Which begs the question, would Bedford homeowner Donald Trump do a better job? They’re both available this fall. Who would make the better host?

I still say vote Saget. Or at least Dave Coulier.

Could Rosie O’Donnell be the next Bob Barker?

The only thing trickier than betting on who will be Rosie O’Donnell’s replacement on “The View”? Betting on what Rosie’s next career move will be.

According to a prop bet former prop bet on BetUS.com, here are some of the possibilities, along with their odds:

Start her own TV talk show: -8000
Start a new comedy show satirizing Barbara Walters: +5000
Compete in beauty pageants: +15000
Join a Donald Trump Corporation: +500
Publish a magazine: +2000
Give etiquette lessons: +300
Sell trailers: +15000
Become a recording artist: +5000

I’m not exactly sure what a negative 8000-to-1 bet would entail (would you owe money if she launched The Rosie O’Donnell Show 2.0?), but ignoring that, there’s one possibility is conspicuously absent from this list: Rosie taking over “The Price is Right.”
